Assessment.

The assessment will be tailored to the unique needs of your child and family, ensuring a personalised and comprehensive approach. It can take place in the comfort of your home or in an agreed-upon environment, such as your child's school, depending on what works best for your family and the therapist.

During the assessment, we will conduct both a detailed objective and subjective evaluation, followed by collaborative, person-centered planning. Together, we will set meaningful goals that are co-created between your family and the therapist, ensuring a shared vision for your child's progress.

After the assessment, we offer a complimentary follow-up phone call to provide further guidance on your child's care and discuss the next steps for ongoing support.

If you would like to know more about the assessment process or enquire about booking an assessment please contact us on our e-mail address surestepschildrensphysio@gmail.com.

During the initial assessment your physiotherapist will take a detailed history about your child and family. We want to get to know your child, what they like and dislike and how they best communicate. What makes them happy and motivates them.

We will discuss your child's goals and the aspirations of their parents/ carers.

Prior to the assessment we will send you a form to gain information related to the development and past medical history.

We will ask for information around any medication they are taking and any allergies they may have.

The physical part of the assessment will focus on observations of their movement and gross motor skills which will be tailored to their age and physical abilities.

We will also engage in an examination to ascertain if there are any physical dysfunctions to aid diagnosis.

It's helpful if your child is wearing appropriate clothing for the examination. For younger children and babies if you think it's beneficial to have or bring their favourite toys and blankets.

Helping to continue to access essential equipment such as standing frames or walkers

We provide regular postural checks and advise on suitable adjustment to equipment as required.

We can liaise with companies for servicing of equipment and carry out joint sessions with company reps to check equipment meets needs.
(most companies stipulate requiring a therapist present when reviewing equipment)

Support with transition of educational placement:

Ensuring continued input into EHCP's.

Training for college, education or care staff on postural management, positioning and exercises.

Continued essential physiotherapy for young adults:

Ongoing physiotherapy treatment and support into adulthood, as per required needs.

Strengthening and Conditioning.

We are proud to now offer strength and conditioning programmes and support with our physiotherapist Liam.

If your child plays regular sport, to prevent injury, they may benefit from an assessment to look at their body strength and condition. Following a comprehensive assessment, we provide a programme to increase strength and condition their body to prevent injury.

Why carry out strengthening and conditioning:

The idea behind these assessments and guided programmes is to reduce the chances of injury and time out of sports. Our assessment highlights any areas of weakness that may be susceptible to injury.

Why work with us?

The assessment and programme will be carried out by a physiotherapist with a full understanding of childhood musculoskeletal development. Childrens muscles and skeletal system are very different to adults and it is important to work with professionals who have full training expertise in this area.

Unsure if your child will benefit from an assessment for strength and conditioning work? We can schedule a call with one of our team to discuss further.

Do you need support helping your child access sporting and leisure activities?

Our Physiotherapists are experienced in working with equipment companies and local groups to help encourage participation in activities for children and young people with disabilities. It is our passion that all children and young people should have the opportunity to access sport and leisure activities they enjoy and make them happy.

Engaging in physical activities is crucial for children with physical disabilities as it promotes their physical health, enhances social skills, and fosters independence and self-esteem. Sure steps children's physiotherapy can help support assessments for equipment that will promote physical activity, such as adaptive trikes.

We have worked with local groups such as CP football and are happy to help research availability in your local area.
